A Ferrari Day | Track Experience at Bilster Berg

event

It was still early in the morning when the first Ferraris arrived at Bilster Berg for the upcoming track day. The track opened its gates exclusively for Maranello Motors customers, and it quickly became a hive of activity. Drivers and visitors received their accreditations, and vehicles were fitted with transponders and vehicle numbers for the race track.

When the first driver briefing began at 9:00 a.m., the Maranello Motors pit box was already very well attended. Racing driver Philip Hamprecht gave the free-driving group a short briefing to refresh their knowledge of track behavior and share some initial tips for sporty driving. The 4.2-kilometer race track, with its 19 corners, 44 crests and dips, and gradients of up to 26 percent, is one of Germany's most demanding tracks, and not just for professionals. Therefore, the first 2.5-hour driving slot began with two introductory laps, during which the participants received many more valuable driving tips from Philip Hamprecht via radio.

While the free-driving participants completed their laps, there was an intensive briefing for track newbies before they took to the track behind the lead car, the Ferrari 296 GTB, before the lunch break. The group rotated positions one after the other to ensure that all Ferrari drivers had an equal feel for the ideal line through the corners.

During the midday break, the entire Maranello Motors community gathered for an excellent BBQ. Drivers and guests exchanged views on the many impressions of the morning and picked up a few expert tips for the afternoon driving sessions.

When things got back to normal, Maranello Motors welcomed a very special guest. Challenge driver Mike Martin also took the opportunity to complete a final relaxed driving practice session as part of the Maranello Motors Track Day – albeit without his new 296 Challenge. It was already on its way to Mugello, Italy, where the first practice sessions were scheduled to begin the following Wednesday.

The afternoon passed far too quickly for the Ferraristi. The final laps of free driving and the one-on-one coaching sessions during the guided driving sessions. When the last Ferrari finally left the Bilster Berg track, a hint of sadness arose.

Nevertheless, all drivers and visitors looked back on an eventful day, one that whetted their appetite for more events from the world of Ferrari Racing. The exclusivity with the limited number of cars was particularly impressive.
