The roots of this connection lie in motorsport. Between 1900 and 1986, the International Automobile Federation introduced a color code that assigned a specific color to each country. Red was assigned to Italy, so that initially Scuderia Ferrari, as Alpha Romeo's works team, and later Ferrari itself, wore this color. After sponsor-driven liveries entered Formula 1 in the 1960s, Ferrari remained the only manufacturer to adhere to the tradition. The very first road-going Ferrari, the 125 S, was also presented in burgundy red in 1947.
Even today, the color remains the most popular among Maranello Motors customers. Internal statistics show that a total of 25 percent of the vehicles delivered by Maranello Motors in 2024 were red.
Pre-Owned Manager Fatih Deniz confirms that most new customers in the pre-owned segment are specifically looking for a corresponding car. Arguably the most famous of all red shades is Rosso Corsa, which translates as "racing red." Nicola Boari, Head of Ferrari Product Marketing, underscored the importance of the color for the brand in an interview with Ferrari Magazine: "Rosso Corsa is rooted in our DNA. We truly believe it creates the best connection to the brand—it is our most representative color." This fact is also confirmed by Maranello Motors' color statistics. Based on the total number of red Ferraris, 30 percent wear Rosso Corsa. A more detailed look at the Maranello Motors color statistics also reveals that red is particularly prevalent in the sports car segment at Maranello Motors, with a 36 percent share. In the Gran Turismo segment, 15 percent of vehicles delivered are red.
But not all reds are created equal. Ferrari has now created over 50 different shades. The newest shades in the color palette are Rosso Racing and Rosso F1-75, developed to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Scuderia Ferrari. Historical shades like Rosso Dino are currently enjoying growing popularity. They hark back to the brand's tradition and represent something special today.
Those who dream of a red Ferrari but can't find what they're looking for in the current color palette can choose from an even broader range of colors during studio appointments. The Tailormade program also offers the opportunity to make their individual vision of a red Ferrari a reality with the support of the Ferrari Design Team.
